Anoka County Commissioner Mike Gamache

Anoka County Government Center
2100 Third Ave.
Anoka, MN 55303-5024

Commissioner Gamache has been on the Anoka County Board of Commissioners since 2014. He represents portions of Andover, Coon Rapids and Fridley.

Commissioner Gamache grew up in Hopkins and graduated from Hopkins Eisenhower High School in 1977. After high school, he attended Bemidji State University, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and Metro State University — where he graduated from with a degree in business administration. He has been employed at General Mills for 40 years, primarily in the consumer relations field.

Commissioner Gamache lives in Andover with his wife, Beth. They have two children: Katie and Rob.

Commissioner Gamache was mayor of Andover for 14 years before serving on the Anoka County Board. He’s been a member and president of the Andover Athletic Association, and he’s served on the Andover Planning and Zoning Commission, the Andover Economic Development Authority, League of Minnesota Cities and the Association of Minnesota Counties. He’s been president of the North Metro Mayors Association, and he worked closely with the Highway 10 Coalition in the mid-2000s to improve traffic flow throughout the county. He’s been interested in politics since his youth, with that interest being further piqued after he attended caucuses in 1984.

Commissioner Gamache believes a good county commissioner should have a thorough understanding of how government functions so he or she can address the concerns of residents and explain to them the decision-making process that precedes board actions.

One of top issues Commissioner Gamache wants to address during his tenure on the board is transportation. Anoka County is projected to keep growing over the next few decades, and Commissioner Gamache wants to make sure the roadways keep up with that increased volume of motorists. Another important issue for Commissioner Gamache is to spur economic development in Anoka County by attracting and retaining businesses. He also wants to ensure the county continues to have a dedicated, engaged, diverse workforce that expertly meets the needs of residents. Commissioner Gamache supports the county’s court system working toward rehabilitating offenders, when possible. He notes the county’s veterans court program has been highly successful in the rehabilitation process, and the county has a drug court, as well, that has a similar focus.

Commissioner Gamache’s hobbies include baseball, golf, travel, and music — he listens to a variety of music and enjoys live shows at various locales.
