Earth Day Celebration
Join us at Wargo Nature Center for a FREE fun-filled family Earth Day celebration complete with a climbing wall and light refreshments. Learn about Wargo’s unique offerings and activities, make your own earth art project to take home, listen to live music, explore the trails, and enjoy the lovely spring weather! Also, be sure to visit the Earth Day Fair, where local organizations will provide information and businesses will showcase earth-friendly products. FREE

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Nature Play - Spring Arrivals
It’s here! We’ll go outside to look for signs of spring, sing songs, and make a craft. This program is geared for 2–5-year-olds who are accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required.

Homeschool Programs

Wargo has homeschool programs for students in K-12th grade! Programs start in October and are held the third Thursday of the month through May. Each topic is created to be age appropriate and topics change each year. We pride ourselves in having staff who are experienced and well-educated in the field of environmental learning. These topics may help you meet standards and fill in areas that require outdoor learning and science skills. Pre-registration is required.

RECREATION PROGRAMS

Intro to Kayaking
During this flat water course we will cover basic strokes, kayaking safety, and boat/equipment selection. Most of our time will be spent out on the water paddling and getting comfortable in the boats. No experience is necessary and pre-registration is required. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Nordic Walking

Try out fitness walking using specially designed poles. Nordic walkers engage more of their body by using more force on their poles. You’ll receive a 46% increase in calories burned than with walking without poles. It’s a great way to get outside and increase your walking workout! Poles provided. Pre-registration is required.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Rockin Reptiles

Are snakes slimy? Can some turtles really live to be 100 years old? Come find out about the fascinating world of reptiles. Through hands-on activities we’ll learn all about snakes, turtles and lizards; we’ll even meet the nature center’s resident reptiles. This program is best suited for children ages 5-9, but all ages are welcome! This is a family program and children must be accompanied by a registered adult.
Pre-registration is required.

Intro to Nature Photography
Love nature? Are you just starting in nature photography or thinking about starting? Want to take great outdoor photos to enjoy all year? If so, join a local photographer to learn some tips and tricks for taking great photos while out in nature. We’ll discuss equipment, photography principles, and other techniques to help you progress as a nature photographer. Weather permitting, we will also spend some time outside practicing these skills. Please bring your preferred camera—all camera types are welcome! No experience required for this program. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Pre-registration is required.

Lunch with Naturalist - Spring Wildflowers
Bring your lunch and join a naturalist for our Lunch with a Naturalist series. These monthly presentations will include local natural history information and possibly a relaxing stroll on the trails at Wargo. Any equipment that may be needed will be provided. Pre-registration is not required.

Bird Walk Series
Join an experienced birder on a walk through one of Anoka County’s beautiful parks. Enjoy seeing or hearing 20 to 60 species of birds. A checklist of Minnesota birds and a map of each area will be provided. All birding abilities are welcome. Binoculars will be available for use. Pre-registration required.
