Watch for ice discs along the Mississippi River banks at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park. The accelerating water creates a force called rotational shear, which breaks off a chunk of ice and twists it around. As the disc rotates, it grinds against surrounding ice smoothing it into a circle. Become mesmerized by these magical ice discs along the Mississippi River. Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park
Wargo Nature Center, in Lino Lakes, hosts an array of wildlife even in winter. Snowshoes can be rented and used throughout the peninsula to search for signs of animal tracks. Deer, raccoon, and coyotes are a few winter animals that may be spotted while walking the trails at Wargo.
