Medical Examiner Provides Annual Report
Dr. Quinn Strobl, the chief medical examiner for the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, was present at the board meeting to provide the office’s annual report for Anoka County. Of note for 2021: there were no homicides last year in the county, and 167 people in Anoka County died of accidents, with 74 of those being due to drug overdoses, which was an increase from the previous year. Board Proclaims April 10-16 National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
The board adopted a resolution proclaiming April 10-16 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Anoka County. Val Sprynczynatyk, Anoka County director of Emergency Communications, and several other Emergency Communications staff were in attendance to be honored by the board. New U of M Extension Regional Director Introduced
Craig Taylor, who has been the University of Minnesota Extension Regional Director for the past two-plus years, introduced himself to the board at the meeting. Due to COVID restrictions, Taylor hadn’t yet had the opportunity to meet the board in person. Taylor brings a wealth of experience to the position, and noted he’s excited to be in this role. The University of Minnesota Extension is in every county in the state, and their mission is to bring Minnesotans together to build a better future through university science-based knowledge, expertise, and training. Contract Amended for Ramsey, Sunfish Lake Boulevards project
The board approved an amendment to a contract with Bolton & Menk, Inc. for the construction of new interchanges at Ramsey Boulevard and Sunfish Lake Boulevard on U.S. Highways 10/169 in the City of Ramsey. The proposed Ramsey Gateway improvements includes grade-separated interchanges at Sunfish Lake Boulevard and RamseyBoulevard, replacement of the adjacent at-grade BNSF Railway crossings with grade-separated crossings, new frontage and backage roads, and other associated improvements to provide for the safety of the traveling public. Letter of Support Provided for National Rugby Center
The board provided a letter of support for the development of a National Rugby Center to be located at the National Sports Center in Blaine. The Minnesota Rugby Club, The National Sports Center and the City of Blaine are working together on this project. The National Rugby Center would be the first of its kind in Minnesota. The Center will likely attract over 360 rugby teams each year coming from across the United States and will also attract international players. It is estimated the development of a National Rugby Center would provide an annual economic impact of $51 million to the State of Minnesota. For more information on this item, click HERE. Agreement Approved for Trail Near Dog Park
The board approved a joint powers agreement with the City of Coon Rapids for a short, paved trail segment to connected from an existing trail to the Bunker Hills Dog Park. Federal Ammunition to Celebrate 100th Anniversary
The board adopted a resolution recognizing April 27 as Federal Ammunition 100th Anniversary Day. This Anoka business has been manufacturing ammunition at the same location for all 100 years of its history, and it’s been a strong supporter of Anoka and the Anoka County area by employing Minnesotans and being involved in the community.
