Centenarians Recognized 

Commissioner Scott Schulte, chair, Anoka County Board of Board of Commissioners, noted at the beginning of the meeting that four Coon Rapids residents were at or nearing an impressive mark: 100 years old. Right-of-Way Acquired for St. Francis Road Project

The board approved acquisition of right-of-way for the reconstruction of Rum River Boulevard between 235th Avenue NW and Yukon Street NW in the City of St. Francis. This project, which includes reclamation, new bituminous surfacing and the realignment of Rum River Boulevard, is scheduled for construction in 2021. For more information on this item, click HERE.

Discussion Held on Reduced Conflict Intersection Safety Issues

As an informational item, the board discussed ongoing safety issues and concerns experienced at the Highway 65 and Viking Boulevard signalized reduced conflict intersection in the City of East Bethel. As this is a Minnesota Department of Transportation project, Anoka County does not have authority to conduct changes to the intersection, but the county stays in contact with MnDOT about intersection concerns and upgrades. Funds Accepted for Veteran Services 

The board accepted $22,500 from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, which will be used by the Anoka County Veteran Services Office to provide outreach to the county’s veterans and to reduce homelessness among this population. For more information on this item, click HERE.

Wave Pool Reconstruction Contract Approved

The board approved a contract with the Metropolitan Council for the Bunker Beach wave pool reconstruction and asset management project in the amount of about $1.38 million. Due to COVID-19 impacts, the grant amount for this project was reduced by about $160,000. For more information on this item, click HERE.

CARES Act items approved

The board approved several Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act items: modification of a conference room in the County Attorney’s Office for remote court hearings; a forklift purchase for unloading and organizing personal protective equipment (PPE); reconfiguring of work areas to adhere to social distancing guidelines; expanding existing Transportation Assistance Program to assist with car repairs and insurance for county residents experiencing job loss/unemployment due to COVID-19.
