ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

Commissioner Scott Schulte Elected Chair of Anoka County Board

District 7 Anoka County Commissioner Scott Schulte was elected chair of the Anoka County Board of Commissioners, with Commissioner Julie Braastad being elected vice chair. Read the press release HERE.

Commissioners Receive Committee Assignments

All members of the board received their committee assignments at the meeting. In addition to being elected board chair, Commissioner Scott Schulte was named chair of the Transportation and airport committees and the Airport Northwest Building Area Joint Powers Board. Board vice chair, Commissioner Julie Braastad, was named chair of the Human Services, Public Safety and Intergovernmental Relations committees. Commissioner Mike Gamache was named chair of the county’s Information Technology, Parks, and Fairgrounds Advisory committees. Commissioner Matt Look was elected chair of the Anoka County Regional Railroad Authority; he was named chair of the Finance and Capital Improvements and Internal Audit committees. Commissioner Mandy Meisner was named chair of the Property Records and Taxation Committee. Commissioner Robyn West was named chair of the Management and Benefits and Compensation committees. Discussion Held on Public Comment

During the establishment of the board’s rule and procedures, commissioner Mandy Meisner brought forth an amendment to include a public comment period at County Board meetings. Currently, the public has the opportunity to comment at committee meetings. The amendment was not adopted, but board members agreed they’d like to discuss having public comment periods at board meetings during an upcoming workshop. REGULAR MEETING

Adult Protection Staffing Increased

Anoka County received a state allocation of new money for 2020 ($54,762) to be used for adult protective services. The board approved this money to be used for Anoka County’s Adult Protective Intake and Senior Services-Adult Protection units. In Adult Protective Intake, a .8 FTE position will be increased to a 1.0 FTE. In Senior Services-Adult Protection, a .65 FTE position will be increased to a .10 FTE. Bids Awarded for Lake George Dam, Rum River Bank Stabilization Projects 

The board awarded a bid in the amount of $290,255 to Surnam Construction Inc., from Corcoran MN, for the construction of the Lake George Dam and Rum River bank stabilization projects. On Lake George, a 50-year-old structure that controls the elevation of the lake will be replaced. The stabilization projects along the Rum River in Commissioner District 1 will help preserve the river in that area and contribute to habitat enhancement. Implementation of these projects could begin as soon as the end of January. For more information on this item, click HERE.
