Bunker Lake Blvd & St Francis Blvd Intersection Improvements
Anoka County, in partnership with the Cities of Anoka & Ramsey, MnDOT, and the Lower Rum River Watershed District, will be reconstructing the intersection of Bunker Lake Boulevard (CSAH 116) & St. Francis Boulevard (TH 47) in the Cities of Anoka and Ramsey. This project will consist of road reconstruction, bridge deck modifications / re-decking, new storm sewer, median curb & gutter, and signal modifications.
- Safely accommodate all users, including motor vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
- Reduce impacts and avoid the natural resources and wetlands adjacent to the highway corridor, where appropriate
- Provide capacity at the intersection pertaining to turning movements, by reducing traffic delays and accommodating efficient mobility
- Improve emergency response times to better serve the community.
Eastbound and westbound left thru lanes from Bunker Lake Boulevard onto T.H. 47 will be moved, to allow for the installation of a temporary traffic signal system at the intersection. Motorists will continue to be able to take left turns at the intersection during this phase of the project (May 3rd – mid June, 2021).
Eastbound and westbound lanes on Bunker Lake Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction, in order to perform work on the north side of the Oxbow Bridge. In addition, there will be a traffic shift on southbound St. Francis Boulevard (mid June – mid July 2021)
Northbound and southbound traffic on St Francis Boulevard will shift traffic to the outside lanes, with a single lane in each direction. Construction work will build the interior portion of the intersection to include additional left turn lanes and concrete median. Shoulder construction and pedestrian improvements on Bunker Lake Boulevard will continue east of the bridge; watermain installation will begin across the Rum River adjacent to the Oxbow Bridge (mid July – end of September 2021).
Eastbound and westbound lanes of Bunker Lake Boulevard will shift motorists to the outside lanes to construct the new left turn lanes and concrete median. Pedestrian improvements, concrete median on St Francis Boulevard south of Bunker Lake Boulevard, and construction of the watermain in the southeast quadrant of the intersection will be completed (end of September - beginning of October 2021)
Installation of the new traffic control signal and final bituminous pavement surfacing throughout the project, and construction of the trail on the south side of the Oxbow Bridge will be completed (beginning of October 2021 – beginning of November 2021).
