CSAH 22 (Viking Blvd) Bridge Rehabilitation 

Project Background / Description
Anoka County, in partnership with the City of Oak Grove, is developing plans for the replacement and/or rehabilitation of the bridge on CSAH 22 (Viking Boulevard) over the Rum River. The project is in the preliminary development phase to determine the widening options. This project will consist of rehabilitating and widening the bridge over the Rum River to provide eight foot shoulders. Construction of this project is anticipated in 2023.

Project Goals

  • Safely accommodate all users including motor vehicles, freight, rail, transit, pedestrians, and bicyclists
  • Rehabilitate the existing bridge
  • Improve storm water management and treatment
  • Reduce impacts and avoid where appropriate the natural resources and wetlands adjacent to the highway corridor
  • Provide efficient mobility and access for all modes of travel
  • Develop a financially responsible design that minimizes right-of-way and environmental resource impacts

  • Identify Preferred Alternative – Spring 2021
  • Preliminary Design – Spring/Summer 2021
  • Open House – TBD
  • Final Design – Fall/Winter 2021/2022
  • Construction – Spring/Summer 2023
