Front-door boarding, onboard fare payment return on Aug. 1

Beginning Saturday, Aug. 1, Metro Transit will return to front-door boarding and onboard fare payment is required (pay before boarding on METRO lines). All buses now have plexiglass shields that help protect drivers and customers.

Board through the front door (any door on METRO lines) and pay your fare. The fastest way to pay your fare is with a touch-free Go-To Card or the Metro Transit app. Coins, dollar bills and transit passes are still accepted. Customers on METRO lines should pay at ticket machines or validate their Go-To Cards at stations before boarding.

Customers can purchase or add value to Go-To Cards at metrotransit.org, at Metro Transit Service Centers or at any Cub Foods, Jerry’s Food or Unbank locations.

Policies to help keep you safe

Remember, to increase social distancing and prevent crowding at the front of the bus, all customers – except those with mobility devices or special needs – should exit through the back door.

Also, in compliance with the Governor’s mandate, face coverings are required on all Metro Transit buses and trains, except by children under age 2 and those with health conditions. Learn more at metrotransit.org/health.

If a bus does not have space to allow adequate social distancing, the driver will display "Next Bus Please" on the overhead sign, notifying customers that they need to wait for the next trip. If the driver of a full bus identifies a customer with a disability, the driver will alert the Transit Control Center, and will stop to notify the customer that they are not being allowed to board due to crowding and the approximate time of the next available bus.
