Do you know a recycling super star?An individual, group or organization passionate about recycling and exceptionally committed to reducing, reusing, recycling or composting? Nominate them for an Anoka County Recycling Champion Award.
To nominate someone for a Recycling Champion Award, simply complete the nomination form on-line.
Nominations for Recycling Champion must be received by 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017.
Recycling Champions selected will be acknowledged at the Recycling Recognition Ceremony on May 17, 2017, from 2:30-4:00 p.m. at the Anoka County Government Center, 2100 3rd Ave., Anoka MN 55303. A certificate of appreciation will be given to each recipient.
The goal of all Recycling & Resource Solutions programs are to reduce the amount of trash generated in Anoka County by properly managing the items that can be reduced, reused, recycled or composted. We would like to recognize those individuals or groups that help us achieve this goal. Here are examples of activities that make an individual or an organization a Recycling Champion:
Waste Reduction Activities - Waste reduction is preventing the generation of waste, which saves natural resources by reusing and reducing. Examples of waste reduction activities include: promoting reuse opportunities in your community; coordinating reuse collection events; coordinating or providing Fix-It Clinics to repair goods; establishing reuse area at your work, school or organization.
Recycling Activities - Examples of recycling activities include: finding out exactly what is recyclable and why; convincing others to recycle; starting a recycling program at work, school or in the community; picking up recyclables along roadways, parks or other public areas. Organics Diversion Activities - Examples of organics activities include: backyard composting or vermicomposting (composting indoors with red worms); participating in one of the organics drop-off programs offered in Anoka County and encouraging others to do that same; starting a composting or organics collection program at work, school or in the community and hauling the organics to a drop-off center if no collection program exists. Outreach - Examples of outreach activities include: coordinating a zero waste event where all items purchased were reusable, recyclable or compostable; providing education activities to convince others to reduce, reuse, recycle or compost.
