Anoka County License Centers & Passport Centers

In an effort to provide a safer environment for our customers and staff, we will be limiting services we provide face-to-face:

  • Starting May 18th, select services will be available on an appointment basis only. Due to CDC Guidelines, we are unable to accept walk-ins at this time.
  • You can make an appointment here.
  • We are currently experiencing an extremely high call volume.
  • We will no longer be processing tab renewals in-office, due to COVID-19 restrictions. We will be processing tabs via drop box, mail, and over the phone.
  • Please utilize our Drop Boxes to process select services to reduce the amount of customers in office and to limit face-to-face interactions.

Minnesota Updates

Driver’s License & ID Expiration Dates

If your driver’s license or ID card has expired during the peacetime emergency, you automatically get an extension on your expiration for two months after the month the peacetime emergency ends. This bill was signed into law by Governor Walz on March 28, 2020.

Real ID Extension

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is extending the REAL ID full enforcement deadline to October 1, 2021. Previously it was October 1, 2020. If you do not have a Real ID compliant driver’s license or ID card, we still recommend getting one as it expires if it is before 10/1/2021.

Residency Documents for Real ID

A bill recently passed that will make it easier for Minnesotans applying for a REAL ID. Most notably, we can now accept a utility bill with two unrelated names, valid hunting or fishing license, cell phone bill etc. Please check here for the updated residency document list.

Vehicle Registration

Deputy Registrars across the state have still been available to process motor vehicle transactions for customers (including tab renewals). Minnesota has not extended any vehicle registration expiration. You must renew your vehicle tabs before they expire, as always.
