Who sets the rules?

The Minnesota Legislature provides guidance to licensed family child care providers through various rules, regulations and safety requirements.

How do I learn about the rules?

Providers will be given the information they need to help them obtain and maintain a license through:

The Family Child Care Licensing Rule

The primary set of rules, regulations and requirements for family child care in Minnesota is Minnesota Rules, Parts 9502.0300-9502.0445, also known as the Family Child Care Rule, Licensing Rule and Rule 2, Minnesota Statute 245A and 245C.

Additional Regulations

The Family Child Care Rule is supplemented by specific laws passed by the Minnesota Legislature. Below you can view summaries of applicable law from various sessions of the legislature.
