Why does Anoka County have outstanding checks?

Every year, Anoka County writes thousands of checks to individuals and businesses.  A small number of these checks are never cashed by the recipient and remain outstanding on the county's books.  If you believe you received a check from Anoka County that you never cashed, you can file an affidavit with the county and ask that a new check be issued.

By law, Anoka County cannot keep the funds from outstanding checks but holds unclaimed funds for five years.  After five years, unclaimed funds are turned over to the State of Minnesota. The State holds the money until the rightful owner or heir is found. For more information, see http://mn.gov/commerce/topics/Unclaimed-Property/.

How can you claim your check?

Step 1 - search for your individual or business name.

Step 2 - follow the check replacement instructions.
