Hunting / Fishing Licenses

  1. Please note: Anoka County does not collect Wheelage Tax on vehicles kept within Anoka County.

    If you keep your vehicle(s) at your home or business within Anoka County you are not required to pay Wheelage tax. Please visit any license center, they will be able to remove this fee from your total due.

Minnesota Statute 97A requires that any person, unless exempt, must purchase a license to hunt and fish in Minnesota. Hunting and fishing certain species or in certain areas may also require the purchase of a stamp.

How To Obtain
  • Hunting and fishing licenses and stamps can be purchased, in person, at any Anoka County License Center.
  • Most hunting and fishing licenses and stamps go on sale in mid-February.
  • Small game and fishing licenses are valid from March 1 through the last day of February the following year.
  • Big game licenses go on sale in mid-August. The firearms deer season begins in early November.
  • Duplicate licenses may be purchased from any of our License Centers.
Required Identification
To purchase a resident license, you must provide proof of Minnesota residency (a Minnesota driver's license or identification card) or a Firearm Safety Certificate. Non-residents must provide a driver's license or state identification card from their state of residence. 

If you have never had a hunting or fishing license in Minnesota, the DNR will also require your Social Security number.

Disability Fishing License
Annual angling and/or spearing licenses may be issued to Minnesota residents who are legally blind or disabled and receiving a supplemental income (SSI, SSDI), receiving worker's compensation for total and permanent disability, ward of the Commissioner of Human Services or a resident of a state institution that has an approved application. SSI or SSDI benefit verification must be provided each time the license is purchased and is available online at This license is issued at no fee.
