Tenant Based Rental Assistance

 As of February 1, 2016 Applications Are Closed

Anoka County Community Development will be accepting applications for a limited number of new clients to receive Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA).  The program is funded on a year-to-year basis; it is NOT Section 8 nor a source of permanent rental help. It's intended to assist clients as they work to stabilize their financial situation and become self-sufficient.

Applicants:

  • must have sufficient income to pay their portion of rent;
  • must provide income and asset verification for all members of the household over 18 years old;
  • landlords must agree to work with the TBRA program;
  • program regulations set rent and income limits that cannot be exceeded.  See current limits below;
  • if income approved, the rental unit will have to pass a Housing Quality inspection;
  • IF FUNDING CONTINUES, additional assistance may be available.  Subsidy amounts are up to $350 the first year - up to $250 the second year - up to $150 the third and final year;
  • clients must reapply each year by completing the TBRA application and providing income documentation.  Receiving TBRA is not guaranteed from year to year;

How do you apply?

  • Download the application or pick up a packet from our office.
  • Read the packet thoroughly - complete/sign all forms - provide the requested documentation.
  • Return originals of all forms, but copies of the lease and income verification documents.
  • Hand deliver or mail the completed application, along with the requested documentation, to our office.  Faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted.
  • Applications may be submitted until 4:30 p.m. on January 29, 2016.

Applications will be date stamped upon receipt and reviewed in the order in which they were received; applicants will be notified of acceptance or denial by February 15th.

April 1, 2016 is the estimated start date for subsidy payments to newly-approved TBRA clients
